(Updated May 24, 2018)

WHAT INFORMATION MINERVA COLLECTS & HOW WE USE IT

Geosynthetica and its publisher Minerva respect the privacy of all of its readers on its websites, such as Geosynthetica.net, and on the various other digital channels we utilize, including newsletters and social media. The following data collection and privacy policy and information governs Minerva’s digital publishing activities as of 24 May 2018.

Continued use of Geosynthetica constitutes your acceptance of these revised policies. See also: Disclaimer & Terms of Use.

WEBSITE USER DATA – AGGREGATED OR PERSONAL

Geosynthetica and its publisher Minerva monitor aggregated data and trends provided by its data processer and in accordance with that processor’s data management and privacy policies and applicable international laws. We monitor and collect aggregate data, such as number of users (as defined by the processor), page views, general geographic location, average user time on pages, number of pages per session, external website clicks, and other standard, aggregated website use statistics. This aggregated information is used solely for benchmarking website performance, recognizing content of greatest interest to readers, and improving overall service to the international readership and the sectors we report on.

Where user information might be actively collected, such as on an event registration page, in a comment on a page, or email sign up form, no additional external communications will be initiated without consent and the data collected will be used only in regards to the relevant level of consent given or the specific product or service requested.

Where more detailed registrations directly involving Minerva may be involved (e.g., event registration, product/service purchase, advertising), essential purchaser/participant data may be shared with Minerva’s parent company, Texas Research  International, to ensure proper or improve service, respond appropriately to customer inquiries, or provide relevant financial recognition, resolution, and processing.

While Geosynthetica does not database specific user IP addresses and web use habits, third-party services and devices (e.g., analytics processor, web browsers, mobile platforms) may. The data, as such, are potentially knowable. Minerva encourages all readers of Geosynthetica and related properties to check the privacy settings of the devices and third-party services they utilize to interact with Geosynthetica or other publications and resources.

In the event we are alerted to potential security threats related to a specific IP address, we reserve the right to block any IP address from accessing this or any other Minerva property.

For third-party sources that may automatically collect IP information (e.g., external advertising servers), Minerva has, to the extent it can through its analytics processor, limited possible retention of this information by third parties to the minimal period of time and does not actively collect or review this data.

Geosynthetica may use cookies or related caching tools to enhance user experience of the site (e.g., faster page load times). We will not use these tools to generate user-identifying, user-specific offers of products or services. We do not collect personalized data.

We reserve the right to share limited aggregated data with relevant partners (e.g., sponsors, events, parent company) but at no time does Minerva sell or rent any specific user information.

We may, however, be able to see newsletter subscriber information to the extent you provide your information to that third party. Information of this nature may include email, name (if provided), company (if provided), position (if provided), or other fields allowed by the email processor and included on and filled in on a sign up form.

Minerva will not allow any email to be included in its newsletter subscription list without opt-in consent and verification by the recipient at that email address.

We may, however, be able to see social media user information IF you provide your credentials to that third party. We encourage all readers to review the privacy settings of the social media services they use.
