Slope Stabilization and Landslide Treatment on Roads, Experiences in Costa Rica by O. Bermúdez was presented at
GeoAmericas 2016 (10 – 13 April 2016, Miami).
There are situations surrounding our environment and infrastructure, either by natural or human factors, covering many of
the geotechnical fields, such as slope stability, rock fall protection, overall retention works, soil reinforcement, rock and soil
excavation, among others. The precise purpose of this dissertation is to examine a very important and common instability such
are landslides that generally require retaining solutions, as soil reinforcement and retaining walls.
A reinforced soil structure is the introduction of traction resistant elements to increase the resistance of the soil and
decrease the deformation of the solid, improving the structural behavior. In the other hand, gabions are a well-known
system use from many years ago to solve problems due to slope stability by building gravity structures.Costa Rica is so
much affected by landslides on slopes, its routes usually go across mountains and steep terrain and this kind of solutions
are required constantly.
