REVIEW: Liner Integrity Survey and Assessment Training
March 2009, Austin

By Ian D. Peggs

The 12th TRI-CORP Liner Integrity Survey and Assessment (LISA) course was held at the TRI/Environmental campus 23-24 March 2009.  Twelve attendees, including one from Chile, took part. One day was spent in the classroom and one day in the three test cells on the site. The test cells enable hands-on field-training in three key installation environments: water-covered, soil-covered, and exposed. The exposed cell  incorporated a conductive geomembrane, a geosynthetic clay liner (GCL) and conductive geotextile substrates.

Each attendee went through the calibration process with the geoelectric monitoring equipment, then searched for the unmarked holes in the liners. Each person's survey locations of the soil-covered liner holes were marked wth flags then the soil was excavated and the holes exposed--always an interesting excercise! All holes were located, but not by all people.

All attendees received continuing education hours.

The TRI-CORP Liner Integrity Center (T-CLIC) is a joint venture between I-CORP INTERNATIONAL and TRI. The next phase of certification from T-CLIC involves a one-day field audit during a production geoelectric survey followed by a 90-minute written test.

The next course will probably be scheduled for the fall of 2009. Interested participants are invited to contact the author of this note for future updates. NOTE: this training course can be taken on the road. It has been presented in Albany, New York; at GSE's headquarters in Houston; and in the Philippines.
