Geosynthetic InstituteBy Geosynthetic Institute – The next GSI Webinar will be “Geosynthetics in Heap Leach Mining.” It will take place 13 November 2013 from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm (EST). This continues the Geosynthetic Institute’s (GSI) monthly webinar series, with each session being held every second Wednesday of the month.

Over the past ten years the extraction of metals (mainly copper, gold and silver) from very low grade ores using the heap leach mining method has become extremely common. Today it is a worldwide activity and consumes about 40% of all geomembranes produced. In a complimentary manner it also consumes large amounts of geosynthetic clay liners, geotextiles, geocomposites and plastic pipe.

The 90-minute webinar addresses the topic in the following increments:

  • Background and Concept
  • Categories and Operations
  • Materials and Cross Sections
  • Design Issues (the major focus)
  • Final Comments and Recommendations

Dr. Robert Koerner will be the host of the 80-slide presentation and (as time permits) will answer questions on the topic. The webinar carries 1.5 Professional Development Hours (in all states including Florida and New York, as well as internationall with South Africa) upon completion of a multiple choice test.

Cost is $200 for GSI Members and $250 for Nonmembers per portal connection. Registration online at:
